Image from hard drive

In fact, i am writing this article as i had difficulties to find a free and easy way to make an image of a complete SSD drive.

I do not want to make an image of a partition but an image of a complete hard drive including several partitions. I want to do it to store on a NAS the image of the disk, in order in the future to have an easy way to re-create hard drives like the one i have through Balena Etcher for example.

There are a lot of software to do so an MacOS or Windows, but with internal formats, not the classical .img format.

If you want to do like me, there are several steps to do:

• i found an old NUC to use as PC.
• I downloaded ubuntu, but you can also use Debian
• i installed gnome on the linux fresh install
• then i used gnome disk utility, you can select the complete drive, then make image in .img file.
